Job Description:

The Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) is seeking a Scientific Project Manager for Metabolic Disorders to guide and manage the conduct of major research partnerships. Our projects typically have stakeholders from many aspects of the healthcare environment including biopharmaceutical companies, healthcare not-for-profits, government, and academic scientists. The Project Manager will be responsible for day-to-day management of assigned research projects. Duties involve guiding scientific project meetings by setting agendas, following up on action items, managing meeting logistics, and following up on study timelines and budgets, as well as other related activities. Work will be conducted under supervision of the Scientific Program Manager – Metabolic Disorders at the FNIH offices located in Bethesda, Maryland.

This is a non-research, administrative management position requiring excellent interpersonal and writing skills, a high level of organization, independence, diplomacy, focus, ability to work under tight deadlines, and familiarity with biomedical research environments.


  • Managing scientific, science-related or clinical projects including complex project logistics and budgets involving academic institutions. Experience with government and pharmaceutical companies is a plus.
  • Managing relationships among diverse scientific and administrative partners from different sectors (government, academia, and/or private industry). Experience with clinical trials is a plus.
  • Coordinating and facilitating cross-functional scientific or project team meetings, taking minutes, and tracking action items.
  • Assisting in developing and managing (a) grants/contracts including evaluation and refinement of statements of work, (b) project budgets, and (c) milestones.
  • Preparing clear and concise meeting summaries and written reports.


  • 3+ years of relevant project management experience (Project Management Certification), Healthcare consulting experience is a plus.
  • A Master’s degree (or higher) in a biomedical science or a related discipline.
  • Scientific expertise in metabolic diseases, background in liver disease is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate tact, diplomacy and initiative when working with others.
  • Experience with issues related to managing scientific data including genetic, clinical, genomic, proteomic and metabolomic data is a plus.
