Martin J. Murphy, DMedSc, Ph.D., FASCO

Martin J. MurphyDr. Murphy is Founding Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AlphaMed Consulting, Inc., that provides strategic support for cancer drug development programs of academic centers, global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. He is the founding Executive Editor of three journals: The Oncologist, Stem Cells, and Stem Cells Translational Medicine. Dr. Murphy was founder and former CEO of the Hipple Cancer Research Center, where he was an NIH principal investigator.  He is the author of more than 150 peer-reviewed papers, editor of a score of books and chapters, and is a sought after speaker. Dr. Murphy is co-founder of the Society for Translational Oncology and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Hatteras Venture Partners.  He serves as Chairman Emeritus of the Conquer Cancer Foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), convener of ACT-China (Advanced Clinical Trials-China; Shukui QIN 秦叔逵 & Yi-Long WU 吴一龙 co-chairs), and Steering Committee Member and Senior Consultant of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology. He is a member of the National Cancer Policy Forum of The Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the United States National Academy of Sciences, and a director of the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health.  He is a charter member and vice chairman of C-Change founded by former President George H. W. Bush and former First Lady Barbara Bush. Dr. Murphy is a Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (FASCO, 2013); he is Chief Executive Officer of the non-profit CEO Roundtable on Cancer, which numbers among its members the chief executives of many great corporations. Dr. Murphy has been married for fifty years to Ann Murphy, PhD, president of AlphaMed Press. They have five adult children and ten grandchildren. Dr. Murphy has dual citizenship of the United States of America and the Republic of Ireland. Taoiseach Bertie Ahern presented Dr. Murphy with his Irish citizenship in 2003.
