Despite representing more than half of the global population, women have been systematically excluded from and understudied by health research. FNIH is committed to advancing women’s and maternal health research initiatives and addressing diseases and conditions that have an outsized impact on women and mothers so they can live healthier, fuller lives.
Maternal and Gynecological Health
FNIH is working to address diseases and conditions that specifically impact women and has already launched three public private partnerships in areas of high unmet need in maternal health.
Diseases Impacting Women Differently and Disproportionately
FNIH also works in disease areas that impact women disproportionately or differently. More research is needed to fully realize the impact of these diseases on women and to tailor therapies and care for women. These include:
- • Biomarkers programs in Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis, and Alzheimer’s Disease
- • Developing programs on mental health and depression
Thought Leadership
FNIH has also recently featured women’s health discussions at two signature events – Team Science Day and the FNIH Patient Summit – and will continue to amplify the need for high-quality research and collaboration.
