June 7, 2017— The White House has announced that Francis Collins, M.D., Ph.D.—an ex-officio member of the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) Board of Directors—will continue to serve in the role of Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The FNIH extends its congratulations to Dr. Collins on remaining in the role that he has maintained for the past eight years.

“Francis Collins has been a very effective and productive leader of the NIH and we are very pleased to learn that he will stay on as NIH Director. The FNIH looks forward to continuing to work closely with the NIH to advance biomedical research to provide hope for patients around the world,” said Steven M. Paul, M.D., Chairman of the FNIH Board.

Through the years, Dr. Collins has lead significant initiatives, including the Accelerating Medicines Partnership that brings together the resources of NIH and industry to improve our understanding of disease pathways and to facilitate better selection of targets for the treatment of major disease areas, such as Alzheimer’s Disease, Type 2 diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.
