Mrs. Lily Safra Furthers Long-Standing Support with Donation Totaling More Than $675,000
March 8, 2016 — The Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) is honored to announce that long-standing FNIH board member Mrs. Lily Safra has generously donated more than $675,000 to continue her ongoing support of advancing biomedical research and caring for NIH patients and their families. The donation, made possible from the auction Jewels for Hope: The Collection of Mrs. Lily Safra, will further drive the missions of the Edmond J. Safra Family Lodge and the Charles A. Sanders Legacy Fund.
More than half of her generous gift will establish a Lifecycle Replacement Plan for the Edmond J. Safra Family Lodge. Celebrating its 11th year, the Family Lodge provides no-cost accommodations for families of patients receiving care at the NIH Clinical Center. In addition to their own private rooms, guests are free to use the Family Lodge’s many amenities, including a library, business and fitness centers, children’s play area, lounges, healing garden and newly-renovated kitchen. The plan will preserve the impeccable quality of existing furnishings and décor within the expansive facility for future generations.
The balance of the donation will serve as a lead investment to the Charles A. Sanders Legacy Fund, which commemorates FNIH Chairman Dr. Sanders’ tireless dedication to improving health and fostering biomedical research. The fund will provide the FNIH with the ability to incubate new ideas and launch creative initiatives that will continue to support the mission of the National Institutes of Health.
