Dr. John L. Barr Memorial Fund

Overview

John L. Barr, M.D. was an internist at Kaiser Permanente for 25 years, where he started a clinic for patients with chronic pain. In 2004, his family established the Dr. John L. Barr Memorial Fund to support insurance and travel for Intramural Research Training Award (IRTA) fellows at the NIH Clinical Center, in conjunction with Pain and Palliative Care Services.

The aim of the Dr. John L. Barr Pain and Palliative Care Fellowship is to support research on pain and palliative care and to encourage young investigators to become more familiar with the field.

Goals

  • Support fellows to conduct Research on pain and palliative care.
  • Encourage young investigators to become more familiar with the importance of studying pain and palliative care.

Results & Accomplishments

Since 2005, the Dr. John L. Barr Memorial Fund has supported at least four fellows, in addition to capital support.
