NINDS Health Disparities in Tribal Communities Summer Internship Program

Overview

The NINDS Health Disparities in Tribal Communities Summer Internship Program addresses the critical need for a robust and diverse scientific workforce that brings together different perspectives.. Launched over a decade ago, this eight to 10-week Research training program offers over a dozen participants the opportunity to learn about brain and nervous systems Research. The program focuses on neurological disorders and healthcare disparities and seeks to provide Research and career development opportunities for Native American students, along with students from other underrepresented communities. Interns work with mentors in the NINDS Division of Intramural Research, where they are immersed in basic, translational, and clinical Research. In addition to performing full-time Research, interns engage in professional development opportunities that allow them to network with high-level Native American Researchers and not-for-profit stakeholders.
