Eric Topol to Deliver Keynote Address at the mHealth Summit

West Wireless Health Institute Vice Chairman Dr. Eric Topol to Deliver Keynote Address at the 2011 mHealth Summit

BETHESDA, MD, July 27, 2011 — The Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) today announced the second of several mHealth Summit keynote speakers, Dr. Eric Topol, a leading U.S. physician, author and Vice Chairman of the West Wireless Health Institute.

In partnership with the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the mHealth Alliance, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the FNIH is establishing an all-star roster of visionary keynote speakers, conference tracks and an expanded exhibit hall at the 3rd annual mHealth Summit. The Summit will take place December 5-7, 2011 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in the Washington, DC area.

“Dr. Topol is an important addition to our keynote lineup for the 3rd annual mHealth Summit,” said Richard Scarfo, Director of the mHealth Summit at the FNIH. “As a pioneer of wireless digital innovative technologies shaping the future of medicine, Dr. Topol will bring a unique perspective and vision to the Summit, sharing his viewpoints on the clinical and economic value of mHealth on the health industry.”

Dr. Topol will deliver his keynote address at the Summit during the opening session on December 5, and will focus on the importance of continuing to innovate within the mHealth field, highlighting recent clinical and technical advances, noting where the industry can improve, what goals need to be set forth, and how those goals may be achieved. His keynote will offer some bold predictions about the future of healthcare and the role technology will play. Bringing a different perspective to the Summit, Dr. Topol will discuss the clinical value proposition that wireless health provides — including better health outcomes and lower healthcare costs.

“The mHealth Summit continues to be a catalyst for changing the future of medicine on a global basis, and I am honored to have the opportunity to address this year’s participants,” said Dr. Topol. “We are at a great inflection point in medicine, and we have an imperative to not only be hyper-innovative but also to demonstrate the clinical and economic value of these emerging technologies for patients. Such innovation will lead to better clinical outcomes and more affordable care, and I believe that wireless health will harness and deliver on that promise significantly this decade.”

A strategic affiliate to the mHealth Summit, the West Wireless Health Institute (WWHI) is one of the first medical research organizations in the world supporting the exploration and application of wireless technologies to advance infrastructure-independent healthcare. The Institute is dedicated to innovating, validating, advocating for, investing in and commercializing the use of wireless technologies to transform medicine. Its mission is to lower health care costs by accelerating the availability of wireless medical technology. Dr. Topol was one of the founding directors of WWHI and remains actively engaged in its leadership.

The largest event of its kind, the Summit brings together leaders from across the mHealth ecosystem to foster and encourage communication and advance collaboration in the use of wireless technology to improve health outcomes across the globe. Attendees at the 2011 Summit will be joining the premier international forum for dialogue, world-class thought leadership, visionary keynotes, and action-provoking panel discussions on mHealth. The Summit will build on previous successes and offer a robust and comprehensive program agenda, focusing on the technology, research, business, and policy perspectives of mHealth and aid in identifying and accelerating sustainable mHealth solutions.
