Seventh Annual The Boo! Run for Life
The Foundation for the National Institutes of Health Announces Seventh Annual The Boo! Run for Life 10k Run on October 14
BETHESDA, MD, August 30, 2012 — The Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) and the Dean R. O’Neill Renal Cell Cancer Research Fund were pleased to host the 7th annual Boo! Run for Life on Sunday, October 14, 2012 in Washington, DC. The Halloween-themed event, which features a 10K run and 3K Tidal Basin walk raises awareness and funds for kidney cancer research.
The Boo! Run for Life event raises awareness and funding for renal cell carcinoma – or kidney cancer. All proceeds contribute to the Dean R. O’Neill Renal Cell Cancer Research Fund at the FNIH, which supports a dedicated renal cell cancer research fellowship program at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
“Thinking back seven years ago when we first launched the Boo! Run for Life event, it’s exciting to see how much the event has grown and how much funding we have raised for renal cell cancer research,” noted event co-founder Matthew O’Neill. “It’s very rewarding to come together each year with supporters of renal cell cancer research to raise awareness for the disease and to support the great work being done by the lab of Dr. Richard Childs at the NIH.”
The Dean R. O’Neill Renal Cell Cancer Research Fund, working in partnership with the FNIH and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, provides critical support for kidney cancer research by sponsoring top-notch candidates to the NIH to pursue novel and promising advanced kidney cancer treatments. The efforts of Dr. Childs and his colleagues have already led to the discovery of the power of allogeneic stem cell transplantation against kidney cancer, as well as the benefits of combining immune-based therapy with drug treatments to improve the survival of patients with kidney cancer.
We look forward to the 8th Annual Boo! Run for Life next October, 2013.
