The Foundation for the National Institutes of Health Hosts Pioneering Research Meeting Celebrating Team Science and Its Role in Solving Major Biomedical Challenges

NORTH BETHESDA, Md., September 10, 2024—In an era where collaboration is key to advancing medical research, the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) is proudly hosting Team Science Day on September 16 at the Apella by Alexandria in New York City. Renowned experts from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), life science companies, academic institutions, and patient organizations will celebrate the power of team science and explore how scientific partnerships can help solve some of the most pressing biomedical challenges of our time.

Team Science Day highlights the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and will feature a series of keynote addresses, panel discussions, and informal networking focused on innovative approaches to complex health issues, including cancer, obesity, major depressive disorders, women’s health, and neurodegenerative diseases.

Keynote speakers include NIH Director Monica M. Bertagnolli, MD, whose highly successful career has involved leadership of several large-scale cancer research collaborations. “The scientific opportunities and tools that we now have at our disposal have never been greater, but to solve today’s most complex biomedical challenges requires multidisciplinary teams. No single lab or researcher can do this alone, and public-private partnerships are critical to truly personalize medicine,” Dr. Bertagnolli said.

Julie Gerberding, MD, MPH, President and CEO of the FNIH, remarked, “This meeting is not just a recap of our progress, it is a call to collaborative action. Working together across disciplines and sectors, we can build the bridges to biomedical breakthroughs that accelerate the pace of discovery and bring solutions to patients faster. For more than a quarter century, the FNIH has done just that.”

The FNIH gratefully acknowledges our Team Science Day Innovator sponsors Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc./Alexandria Venture Investments, Pfizer, and Ruder Finn; and Pioneer sponsors Deloitte, Genentech, PhRMA, Real Chemistry, Merck & Co., Inc., and Takeda.
