Genomic Literacy, Education, and Engagement (GLEE) Initiative

The GLEE initiative, organized as a public-private partnership, is a proposed five-year effort focused on creating collaborations among new and existing genomic education and engagement programs to advance genomic literacy. Recognizing that the integration of genomic advances within medicine and broader society will require an informed and engaged public that is equipped and empowered by the knowledge they need to make informed healthcare-related decisions, the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) envisioned the GLEE initiative as a means to stimulate synergy and coordination across sectors.

Program Goals

  • Contribute to the development of genomics resources and cirriculum materials
  • Connect students with genomics workforce opportunities within other STEM and medical workforce programs
  • Implement a pilot for a course-based genome sequencing project
